She is also a Quaker. She will discuss due process for everyone, mandatory minimum sentencing and the current climate of fear as related to several current ballot measures on the Oregon Ballot in November. Participants will discuss with her unfair laws and the importance of truth in life and legislation.

  • Florence Date Smith was born in San Francisco, and as a senior at the University of California and a U.S. citizen, she with her parents were incarcerated for almost three years with no crime committed and no legal review of their case. Come join Florence as she shares her 50 minute DVD and then share in a dialogue about what it means to be a citizen in highly political times in a "free country." Florence has her B.A. from the University of Chicago and her M.Ed. from the University of Oregon Special Education department. She and her recently deceased husband, Russel, raised their children in two inter-faith, inter-racial cooperative communities from 1946-1978. As members of FOR and also the Historic Peace Church, the Church of the Brethren, they've witnessed to peace and justice during their entire partnership of almost 64 years. Her daughter, Barbara, will be assisting in her presentation.
